Two South Africans: Allister Nunn and Allan Huysamen spent two months at the departure gate in KL International Airport when Malaysia and South Africa started the lockdown in March. They had both become stranded when their flight back to South Africa was cancelled after they checked in. They could not fly out and Malaysia would not allow them back in.
At the end of May they boarded the first repatriation flight back home, together with 32 fellow South Africans.
Through the generosity of the South African community in Kuala Lumpur they were able to make their lives better with the occasional hot shower and night in the short sleep hotel in the terminal.
