The SACAA has said it would be doing navaid calibration for the DRC. The question immediately arose – what with? – after the crash of the Citation ZS-CAR in George.
I asked the CAA and they replied:
“We are leasing an aircraft with crew and system; however, the function to calibrate remains that of the SACAA and we are also using our own flight inspectors to do the actual flight calibration work.
The process to replace the aircraft is still underway and at an advanced stage.”
Interesting that they say they are close to finalizing a ZS-CAR replacement? I wonder what with? – and what a lease and competent crew will cost? – compared to hiring in as needed.
